During the Salem Witch Trials, Mercy was of one of the accusing girls, along with Betty Parris, Sarah Churchill, Abigail Williams, Ann Putnam, Mary Warren, Mary Walcott, Elizabeth Hubbard, Susanna Sheldon, and Elizabeth Boot. Occasionally Mrs. Pope and Goody Bibber testified with them. The children threw fits, acted up, and lied about their accusations of witchcraft. Mercy, alone, had accused Bridget Bishop, Susannah Martin , Mary Lacey, Sr., John Willard, Sarah Wilds, Nehemiah Abbot, Jr., and George Burroughs, who was her guardian previously.
